2008 Toyota Hilux 2.5 D4D SRX D/C 4x4 - Vibration?
Good day.
I'm no mechanic and therefore have very little knowledge and even less financial backing.
The vehicle has about 170 000km on of which I had put about 20 000km on myself.
Since very recently I started noticing a vibration on the vehicle, but it feels like it is only at acceleration. Low speeds and high speeds.
To me it feels more to be the prop shaft or related gear. I strongly doubt wheel balancing since ai had this done late December 2014.
What tests can I do to single out the problem? (I had done some light offroading this weekend without troubles - It's a Toyota, who expects problems, right?)
I could not notice it on the gravel roads but definitely on tarred road.
Afrikaans or english responses are welcome.
Thanks guys.

I also suspect the universal joints on the propshaft. Get under the vehicle and see if there is any play on the universal joints themselves as well as the centre bearing. Grease them all and take a drive to see if it makes any difference. If there is an improvement initially I would have the universals replaced.

Don't rule out wheel balancing totally, even if you've had it done recently. Wheels can 'throw' a balance weight, or it may not have been done properly in the first place. Have it re-checked (high speed balance). The next obvious thing is the prop-shafts - if it only happens when you engage the x-fer box, then the front prop is the culprit, but most often it's the rear one which typically works much harder than the front. Have it checked out first and also ask them to check all the drive-train mountings as well.
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.

U-Joint behind centre bearing damaged badly. Plenty play and centre bearing also shot. Shaft not even in centre, was hanging due to rubber worn out.
Getting vehicle back tomorrow - Insurance paid.
Unfortunately I had to settle for after market as Toyota was 3 times the price and ontop of that, no spares in the whole country. (There's "mos" only 2 Hilux'es in the whole of Namibia!)
I get so frustrated with the shit service from all of our local Toyota dealers.
Nevertheless, will report back tomorrow when i have a few minutes to spare. Hopefully with some photos.
