Hi all,
What do I need to get power of attorney of my mother's affairs? Some letter that must be notarised by an attorney, witnesses etc?
She has Alzheimers and I need to take charge of her affairs.
Cheers,
C

Chris I did the same, a lawyer mate of mine assisted me. I think it did need Court approval though, not too sure about this as it was a while back. Then you need to present this to her Bank etc.

Yup, you should do it through an attorney. Keep the original safe and request a working copy that you use to present to her bank etc. Make sure they give the working copy back after they've made their own copy.

Re: Power of attorney
The lawyer route is probably the most complete solution.
But there are many other options as well - but limited though.
my mom went to Santam with me. Signed one form and I had POA over her insurance. Was very handy when she passaed away - could sort out the insurance before the executor was appointed
Friends dad was not capable of running his afairs. Bank member came to their house to do the POA docs. Handy procecc. But again limited.
thus the lawyer route makes more sense . . . All depends on the situation
